Cast Glass Einstein Portrait

$400.00

This cast glass sculpture was modeled after a young Albert Einstein.

I first sculpted the clay head and fired it, then pressed it into a special sand mix to make a mold of it, ladled molten glass into the mold, and let it slowly cool over a week in a kiln before grinding and polishing lens like surfaces into parts of the face, and prisms into the hair. From some angles, the prism hair will send little rainbows into the room.

11 inches tall by 8 inches wide by 4 inches deep.

It looks especially stunning in a windowsill where the changing daylight gives the clear piece a new coloration in every shift of the light outside. The cheeks have an optical quality that lend a curious view to the world on the other side.
